Training your Golden

July 23, 2008

Hey there! Today I am making one of those LONG blogs. Today’s is about how to train your new golden retrievers. Well, of course before you get your new golden retriever or any dog you’ve got to set some promising rules like, when your gonna feed it or when your gonna walk with it, give it attention, etc. And if you get a golden retriever your dog will chew so you you better be careful about that too – especially the little ones (the puppies). Well, about barking. Golden retrievers don’t bark much which is a good sign. The only time they bark is when they see somebody or someone like a stranger like the mailman then of course they’ll bark.

Next, is about nipping. They will usually do this during playtime like when you and your goldy are playing with a chew toy they will start nipping your finger or hand. And also, your dog will have to get used to his/her name. Lets say your dog’s name is Lexy (if I have a golden retriever I would name it Lexy!). Then you have to say your dog’s name over and over again till you get her attention.

Well, so that’s your information for your new puppy but be careful with potty training! Also thank you www.rebelcreek.com for the information! Well, see you later! Bye!

Stuff for Today

July 18, 2008
Hey! Today I am going to talk about 2 things. # 1. Two days ago my family and I went to a place called Daybreak Adult Day Care. Daybreak is a place where senior citizens come there to stay for a day. Daddy and I were talking about Kids Are Heroes and Wags for Hope. We talked about the heroes. We also brought Charlie with us. I think they enjoyed it a lot. # 2. I’m just gonna talk about my favorite Webkinz. My favorite Webkinz is the St.Bernard. Even though I don’ t have it yet i really want it. Go on www.Webkinz.com for more details. Bye!
P.S: Also my parents said if I can save enough money [$100] for a Nintendo DS I will be able to buy it! Also, When I get it if I get another $50 I can get a game with it! I am probably gonna get the game Ninteno Dogs. Nintendo dogs is where you train your dog and feed it and play with it. And if you don’t your dog will die and you have to get a new dog. I am so excited!

Travelling with your Pet

July 11, 2008
Hi. Today I am going to write another story about pets in cars. When you travel with your dog it can be lots of fun IF you plan it carefully. If you follow these tips you’ll slide like butter with your dog on a trip.  Let’s just say you and your small dog were going on a trip and the car was packed with suitcases and lots of bags and of course your husband. But then you realized your dog couldn’t fit and you were driving – would it be ok if your small dog sits in your lap while your driving? The answer is NO! If there is a stop sign and you have to stop quickly, your dog could go flying across the car. Also, did you know that if you let your dog put his/her head out the window it can be very dangerous? Besides getting hit by objects near the car, your dog can then get eye problems. So stop doing that! [ If you are!]

Also, at the stores there are lots of things that you can buy for travel such as dog harnesses, crates and portable water dishes. Lots of stores sell that kind of stuff so if your going to travel always bring something like that. Then it will be very easy. It can also be safe for your dog so it doesn’t get injured and have to go to the vets a lot. So be careful with your dog when you travel ok? Do you have any ideas on how to travel with your dog? Well, then just leave a comment.

Pets in Hot Cars

July 1, 2008

Have you ever heard news reports about dogs dying in cars on hot sizzling days? I know I have. Well, today I am the news reporter. Ok, lets say me and my mommy were going to the mall together and we were staying for 45 minutes and we brought Lily with us. And the sign said : NO PETS ALLOWED. So, we didn’t have enough time to go back home and drop off Lily. So, of course we left Lily in the car for 45 minutes. What would happen?

Well, in as little as 20 minutes dogs could die in a car on hot days. According to www.paw-rescue.org, “…. on a 78 degree day temperatures in a car parked in the shade can exceed 90 degrees and hit a scorching 160 degrees if parked in the sun.”

Not only is it bad for pets, but it is against the law too! In fact here is an excerpt from the Cruelty to Animals section of the Maryland legal code: “A person may not leave a cat or dog unattended in a standing or parked motor vehicle in manner that endangers the health or safety of the cat or dog.”

Here are some tips:

Leave your dog[s] at home on warm / hot days.

On trips with your pets bring a bowl of water.

Don’t leave your dog in the car!

If its hot bring your pet with you. If you can’t bring your pet then go home!

So what else can we do to help make sure this doesn’t happen to dogs or cats? For copies of the “Hot Car” flyers and for educational posters to give to store managers to post in their windows to remind people that leaving your pet in a parked car can be a deadly mistake contact dlaurer@humanesociety.org. If you see an animal in a parked car, make sure you tell your parents.  If it is a real hot day and the car is in the sun, tell a store manager.

P.S. This never happened to Lily before.
